Field Notes

Description:

Small, approximately 1 l/4- l l/2" long, round. Black, shiny with white markings that surround a black area. Within the white areas are red "stripes" . The antenna have dark areas divided by smaller light areas. It scuttled along at a fast clip and seemed to be "sniffing" the area it traveled.

Habitat:

Seen first on a violet leaf in the yard. It then moved to the post of the porch.

Notes:

This little cutie looks like a ladybug dressed in black. I did not see it fly at any time. It moved very quickly across then under the leaf then moved to the porch post where it explored up, down and into a crack in the wood.
