Field Notes

Description:

These tiger lilies were very beautiful! The distance from the ground to each flower was about 3 feet. The flowers were red in color, with six c-shaped petals pointing inward. The petals were covered with black ovaloid dots.
The plant had a very curious characteristic- the seeds grew out from the stem and not the flower. You can see this on picture #3.
The anthers were blackened and dried up. Maybe they were out of season. (Note- picture #5 was of a downward pointing flower).
The roots weren't visible. It looked like the stem was just growing out of the ground.

Habitat:

This was found in a cultivated garden near a manmade lake in central North Carolina.
