Description:
Owlet Moth with dark brownish or grayish forewing liberally sprinkled with pale gray flecks, as though dusted with ashes; broad pinkish band in subterminal area; subterminal line wavy; basal two-thirds of wing laced with thin pale meandering lines, as though drizzled with white icing; hindwing grayish-brown. Wingspan 20-23 mm
Habitat:
Range is Nova Scotia to Florida, west to Texas, north to Manitoba; also occurs in British Columbia. Habitat is fields, waste places, stream edges where foodplants grow; adults are nocturnal and come to light. Adults fly from May to September
Notes:
Larvae feed on ragweed, beans, sunflowers, and hedge-nettle (Stachys spp.). Hodges#9720. Per BAMONA, this spotting is a new species record for Edgefield County, SC.
