Field Notes

Description:

This medium sized dragonfly was given its common name due to it having four dark spots on each wing. Very active in summertime around marshy areas with good vegetation. The female and male are very similar so hard to tell apart. Around 39-48mm wingspan.

Habitat:

found on the pond at Potteric Carr nature reserve, owned and maintained by the Yorkshire wildlife trust.

Notes:

It kept being chased from this perch by the Male emperor in following spottings.
