Field Notes

Description:

Sorry for the one photo. This guy was scurrying up a tree and I could only get one good shot.
This squirrel was about 1 1/2 feet long. It had a greying red coat over a white belly. The eyes were brown-black. See references for more descriptions of the head.
The tail was very long (about one half body length) and pricked up when the squirrel was startled. It wasn't prehensile.

Habitat:

I found this near the forests of Waller Mill Park, VA. It was in a 30-foot tree in the park's parking lot. The forest near it is temperate and semihumid, with many varieties of plants, fungi, and animals.
