Bombus americanorum
44.1217, -72.5415
Field Notes
Description:
These insects are larger than the other bees of this family and are more densely hairy. The color of the coat is black with yellow, orange and red markings. They construct waxen combs sometimes of several stories, in the cells in which they lay their eggs. Their tongues are very long. Because their tongues are long, they are the only bee which can pollinate certain red clovers.
Habitat:
Found throughout the United states and southern Canada. Around flowers.
