Description:
This mushroom was about 3 inches tall. The cap was about the same length in diameter. The top of the cap was orange, and looked as if it had been smeared on by jam, although that was its real color. The bottom of the cap was gilled and translucent. The stem was white, and had a few rough "knobs' on it.
Habitat:
I found this bug growing out of the mulch in a playground area in the forests of Waller Mill Park, VA. It was in a sandy location about 150 meters from the nearest road. The forest it inhabits is temperate and semihumid, with many varieties of plants and animals.
Notes:
It looks like some variation of Cantharellus cibarius , but I'm not sure. Please comment if you have any suggestions.
