Field Notes

Description:

SIZE: 12-15 mm
<br>FLIGHT TIME: May to middle of August
<br>CATERPILLARS: Middle of June to end of September
<br>Wings dark-brown with redbrown and yellowish spots, in the middle of all four wings are two whitish, half-transparent window-spots (those on the hindwings are bigger)
<br>LARVAL HOST PLANT: Clematis vitalba ( http://bit.ly/1aFgVyB )
<br><br>It's quite shy and has only a low number of individuals.
<br>The eggs are reddish and laid separatly on the edge of a leaf.

Habitat:

At moistly and warm edges of forests, preferably in the near of waters and in highlands.
<br>DISTRIBUTION: Europe (maybe also elsewhere, didn't find enough information)
<br>In Germany only in the south. According to the Red List Germany they are on the pre-endangered species list (RL V).
