A small (approximately 1/2" long) red ant-like insect spotted on a leaf.

Habitat:

Rural western Kentucky.

This is a female velvet ant in the family Mutillidae. I'm sorry I can't help with the ID past that point. These are great photos of an animal that never seems to stop moving. :-) Great work! http://bugguide.net/node/view/159
