Field Notes

Description:

Members of the family Yponomeutidae are nocturnal moths, and their larvae lives under a communal tent-like webbed structure, like here. At this stage of development, they are about 2 cm long, white-cream in color. As they grow, they become bigger, with two visible rows of black spots on sides of the body (like here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/251339861); and the black head becomes more visible. As they grow, the tent expands.

Habitat:

Mountainous region, valley between Alps and Jura ranges, on edges of a broadleaved forest (mainly oak). Also very close to an urban center.
