Field Notes

Description:

Large blackish bird, reaching 90-100cm in length and 150cm in wingspan. Immature birds (pics 3 and 1) are cream-whitish coloured, with brown wing covers.

Habitat:

I counted about 20 individuals, roosting in trees on shores of river Kura in T'bilisi, with few others flying in while I was walking by. This group was very close by a large colony of black-headed gulls (that one was impossible to count, but I would expect some 175-200 individuals), mixed with feral pigeons and hooded crows, as well as few specimens of Armenian gulls.
All these was seen on river Kura, urban setting of T'bilisi.
