Field Notes

Description:

A very pretty watersnake with broad dark bands across lighter cream to brown to yellowish-orange body. These water snakes do not get very big averaging around 24-30 inches, but maxing out at around 42 inches.

Habitat:

Swamp around Reelfoot Lake.

Notes:

The broad-banded watersnake is a sub-species of the Southern watersnake.
