Field Notes

Description:

This cool looking moth is characterized by its thick front legs, clear to iridescent wings (depending on the viewing angle), the tuft on the rear of its abdomen, and the raising of its abdomen when resting.

Notes:

My sister spotted this moth in Ohio. Here is what she had to say about this moth, "(Spotted) July 11, 2013; 1:30pm; Bellefontaine OH; It was found resting in the shade on a pumpkin leaf and did not fly away even when I got very close and touched the leaf while photographing it." I have no idea, for the moment, what kind of moth this is. Any suggestions?
