Description:
These butterflies are with stunning metallic blue bands on their wings. Their underside is also remarkable, due to its contrasting dark purplish brown color and unique crepe like appearance with wings being irregular shaped.
Habitat:
It is not very common, but more local than rare. It is restricted to certain localities in the hill country and usually encountered in the high country where it is dense or lush undergrowth bordering streams or rivulets.
Notes:
Usually when there is a individual, several others are also found nearby. Their flight is quite swift and the butterfly is extremely wary of intrusions. It usually does not fly far and will remain in its territory like most of its other family members. It chases other butterflies that enter its territory. It uses well defined perches and basks with wings open. But usually it sits with its half open wings.
