Thanks Jellis. I thought it might be possible that they weren't living there but storing things there. I don't know too much about them. I wouldn't be surprised it if were ground squirrels; there were so many in the park!
possible even smaller like voles.
Red squirrels live in trees. These look like a species of ground squirrel
