Field Notes

Description:

Also known as Old Man on the Mountain. The largest flower on the tundra. Yellow. In the Aster Family.

Habitat:

Alpine.

Notes:

I really love this flower and its natural history. It takes at least seven years for the alpine sunflower to gather enough energy to bloom and then it only blooms once before it dies. It gets one chance to pass on its genes.
