Field Notes

Description:

another colourful monkey grasshopper, there were 2 of them, the other less colourful

Habitat:

disturbed forest, urban

Notes:

I spotted many monkey grasshoppers throughout Colombia. I've added photos to this spotting that show my methodology regarding photographing insects. I take a picture from a distance and then keep moving in closer and closer, basically until the insect leaves or I'm close enough for a macro shot I'm happy with. I spotted this while hiking on a huge, partially forested hill behind the town of Salento. It's not very wild at all but had enough vegetation and forest cover that I consistently spotted cool things the few times I hiked there.
