Field Notes

Description:

The body is about 1.25" long, with the antennae being an additional 2.5". Chewing mandible very obvious, but this beetle is slow and docile. It hung out on my hand for a long time.

Habitat:

Conifer forest with plenty of nearby dead trees.

I can't judge the markings from that perspective, but if you check the link you will see several without strong markings on the back, but always with this typical white patch. http://bugguide.net/node/view/7432/bgpage
Possibly a whitespotted with no spot markings.
To my knowledge Monochamus urussovi is an Asian, Northern Asian species. Do you think it will be found in US? I think yours is Monochamus scutellatus. What do you think? http://bugguide.net/node/view/7432/bgpage
