Description:

This is a subspecies of the European gatekeeper which is only found in England South of Westmorland (North Yorkshire). (see reference link for more details). There is one generation each year, with adults emerging in July, peaking in early August, with only a few adults remaining until the end of the month. These tend to dart from flower to flower and rarely sit still for long!

Habitat:

found at Potteric Carr nature reserve, owned and maintained by the Yorkshire wildlife trust.
