Field Notes

Description:

The petals are yellow with purple spots, and the sepals are bright purple and showy. It took me a long time to find a very purple one because the sepals get bleached by the sun very quickly and are just white, as you can see in the last photo.

Habitat:

Found on the side of the road in sandy soil in an oak forest at Gus Engeling WMA.
