Field Notes

Description:

This turtle must be a baby he is only about 2 inches across the back of his shell, I found him while I was riding my bicycle on a rails to trail in north western PA. After I took the pics I placed him on the other side of the trail so he didn't get run over.

I think it is a Common Snapping Turtle, Chelydra serpentina. Could be an Alligator Snapping Turtle, Macrochelys temminckii, but I do not know if Pennsylvania, USA has them?!
