Description:
The largest of the toads, it is also the most common. It frequently reaches the 4-6 inch mark, has huge parotid glands which secrete a poison which make them unpalatable to most species of amphibian-eaters. They are found in a number of shades of brown with black spots and/or splotches over the dorsum. The sides are usually the same shade of brown with white markings, as is the venter.
Habitat:
These are found everywhere here in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador. We see them most often at night hunting for bugs or anything else they can get their mouths around. They are especially numerous under any kind of light that is shining at night.
Notes:
Really big toads that hang out under outside lights and pools of water.
