Description:

Rocky Mountain Elk spotted on the summit of Elk Mountain, in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Oklahoma.

Notes:

Elk had been exterminated from the Wichita Mountains by 1875. Since their reintroduction in 1908, the herd has thrived—today numbering approximately 800 animals.
