Field Notes

Description:

DAY 3 - From the original spotting of these fungi on DAY 1 http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/31018033 and the rapid change overnight after a warm day and exposure to direct sunlight on DAY 2 http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/30883012 my little mushrooms have changed beyond recognition and have lost all colour on the caps. The gills have faded considerably, some to the point of turning white, whilst others have maintained some of the original pink hues. The edges of the caps are starting to darken. Where have my beautiful pink mushies gone?

Habitat:

Found amongst garden mulch which was quite moist due to recent rains. Fungi scattered over an area no more than 1 m/sq. Well shaded by surrounding foliage for most of the day.

Notes:

Another mushroom that was given serious consideration was the Hygrocybe sp. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hygrocybe The general consensus from the folks at mushroomobserver.org however, is that this belongs to Lepista, not Hygrocybe.

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (2)

I spotted these quite by chance. It was really interesting to see the change over time, and very difficult to get an accurate ID. These are Lepista sp. fungi, not Hygrocybe. I must update the description. Very slack of me :-/
Super extended series. great spotting
