Field Notes

Description:

Coleóptera of the Buprestidae, common in Europe. Biggest european species of Anthaxia genus, reaching 1.5 cm long.

Its colour can be metallilc green, golden, blue or violet. The female has purple coloured the front part of the head, pronotus and abdomen. Males have longer anthenae and Los machos tienen las antenas más largas y back femures enlarged.
Larvae drill twigs and trunks of Quercus (Q. Ilex, Q. pubescens, Q. coccifera) on ill or dying trees. Adults feed on pollen, specially from compositae.

Habitat:

Spotted in a Holm oak forest
