Field Notes

Description:

Looks like a giant winged ant. About an inch long and very sluggish. I have never been able to identify this creature and now I am thinking that it could be a flightless wasp.

Any ideas?

Habitat:

Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 900m.

Notes:

Only one image and sorry for quality, this was taken before I got the new camera.

Mark - I agree. The ocelli on the top of the head are quite pronounced too. I have not seen this creature since, despite daily safaris. Dave
