Field Notes

Description:

Sharp, spiny stems and leaves. Stem appears hairy. The plant develops a rosette with large dark green leaves. Bears a showy red/purple flower. The flower head measures 3-5cms and contains hundreds of tiny individual flowers. Mature plants range from 1-1.5mtrs tall and have multi branched stems.

Habitat:

Garden in Te Anau, New Zealand.
