Field Notes

Description:

The adult White-spotted Fantail is about 19 cm long. It has a dark fan-shaped tail, edged in white, and white supercilium and throat. Birds are mainly slate grey above, with a black eye mask, and a white throat and eyebrow. It has whitish underparts, and a grey breast band that is spotted white. (In this case though the eyebrows are black).
Not normally renowned as a songster, the male uses a fixed and unmistakable pattern of musical notes in its call. The notes are loud and normally divided into two stanzas – the first with 5–6 trilling notes rising and falling, followed by 4–5 notes rising up the scale and ending in the highest note.

Birds use the same song year after year, with progressively small changes, with the result that the song sounds very different after 4–5 years. The male's call is a valuable tool in detection and identification of the bird.

Habitat:

Small Trees or bushes, makes a small cup shaped nest.

Notes:

This is my first try at posting a bird photo, please help me in any way you can :)

Welcome to Project Noah, prashkarpendse, I hope you like the site as much we do; there are many features you can explore: I invite you to go to http://www.projectnoah.org/faq where you will find the purpose and “rules” of Project Noah. There is a blog http://blog.projectnoah.org/ where we post articles from spotters with special insight into different organisms. There are also the chats for help with identification, and to comment on your own and others’ spottings. Look at the global and local missions to put your spottings into:http://www.projectnoah.org/missions Enjoy yourself here, see you around!
Please consider adding this spotting to the Animal Architecture mission at http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8082378
I love the nest too! Maybe you should add it to the mission for animal Architecture: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8082378
By the way, "flycatcher" is not a scientific name - to find out more on scientific names you could read this http://blog.projectnoah.org/post/31338827536/lets-talk-scientific-classification
You should also see the White-browed fantail in your area, the difference is it has a blackish throat and white belly.
