Description:

Most likely tiger craneflies, Nephrotoma sp. Resembles Nephrotoma australasiae but has a slightly different pattern on the thoracic shield, and the species is not one of those listed for Papua. http://www.papua-insects.nl/insect%20orders/Diptera/Tipuloidea/Cranefli…

Habitat:

Observed on vegetation in a large semi-urban yard/garden adjacent to a disturbed remnant patch of forest. This is in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.
