Field Notes

Description:

Salticidae; Salticinae; Bavia sp. These are the four Bavia spp. in Philippines according to Wikipedia:- Bavia gabrieli Barrion, 2000, Bavia intermedia (Karsch, 1880), Bavia maurerae (Freudenschuss & Seiter, 2016), Bavia planiceps (Karsch, 1880). The only one that I think I can identify is B. gabrieli and I posted a spotting on that one (https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/708423329) in March of this year. So, if my identification of gabrieli is correct, then it follows that the spider featured here must be one of the other three species. I will need to search some more as I have not seen pictures of any of them yet.

Habitat:

This spider was spotted on a young Citrus sp. in our backyard.

Notes:

I think I should just add here that Bavia spp., as far as I know, usually have a fairly slender abdomen. Since that is obviously not the case here, the spider shown above might be a gravid female. If not, then I could be entirely wrong and this may not even be a Bavia sp.
