Description:
Pyralid Moth (Pyralidae) with posture and wing pattern apparently distinctive. Sexually dimorphic. Males are brownish, have elongated scales at tip of abdomen. Females have similar pattern in shades of gray. Often perches with abdomen arched upward, wings pushed down.
Habitat:
Range is Eastern North America: New York to Florida, west to Illinois, Texas. This one was photographed at a porch light at the edge of a southern deciduous forest. 13-17 mm wingspan.
Notes:
Hodges #5556. Per BAMONA, this spotting is a new species record for Edgefield County, SC
