Field Notes

Description:

This wasp belongs to the Sphecidae family which has approximately 130 species. The body is black with orange legs. The body is 1 cm long. The remaining antenna is 7 mm long. The stinger is 2 mm long.

Habitat:

Insect was found on screen of house. Location has a lot of trees and shrubs. the backyard habitat is one with a lot of plants and flowers. this habitat attracts a diverse population of insects and they are preyed upon by digger wasps.

Notes:

Looked at wasps in Texas and could not find a description with such a long stinger.
