Field Notes

Description:

I crawled into the back of a sea cave to find this eerie scene. Hanging like stalactites. Ranging in size 2 to 6 inches long. Color is shades of brown and gray. I'm leaning towards anemone, but nothing is matching.

Habitat:

Spotted on the ceiling of a sea cave at low tide at Tongue Point Marine Sanctuary.

I agree with Machi. Definitely anemones. Check this out, cos it looks a bit like the habit of your spotting - https://oregonmarinereserves.com/2017/11/15/anemones/ This looks like a really comprehensive site. I know it's not WA, but Oregon is just down the road. Another - https://www.gettyimages.com.au/detail/photo/green-anemone-anthopleura-xanthogrammica-high-res-stock-photography/556444953 Both sites show green anemones, but perhaps others do the same. I hope this helps, Brian.
Definitely anemones. I would check back when the tide comes in a little bit.
