Field Notes

Description:

This is one of the flat-faced, long-horned beetles with orange/yellow markings on the head/thorax and leathery black hind wings. Size is 6-11 mm.

Habitat:

This one was photographed in a mixed pine-hardwood forest adjacent to a large lake along the Bartram Trail in east-central Georgia.

Notes:

Some of its host plants include ironweed (Vernonia, Asteraceae), puccoon (Lithospermum, Boraginaceae), and wingstem (Verbesina alternifolia, Asteraceae).
