Field Notes

A large Sphinx, about 4 cm long, pinkish brown and wearing a backpack. This one has small spots in the straps of the backpack and is a different species of Adhemarius than that seen 1000 meters higher (although only 40 km away). See Adhemarius dariensis from San Cristobal de Las Casas, a greener species with a different type of backpack (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/22178111/fullscreen). Family Sphingidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light set up along the highway on a cliff between San Cristobal and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 18.5, 1164 meters.
