Little Sweet Betsy
Trillium cuneatum
34.16, -84.74
Field Notes
Description:
The plant has three broad, mottled "leaves" surrounding a sessile maroon, bronze, green, or yellow flower. (These leaf-like structures are actually bracts subtending the flower.)
This is a follow up to my spotting last year (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/21547235) when the flowers were fading.
Habitat:
Native USA (AL, GA, IL, KY, MD, MS, NC, PA, SC, TN, VA) rich, mostly upland woods, especially on limestone soils; also old fields, ditches, or other disturbed sites
Notes:
Spotted growing along road to Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area at Allatoona Dam Cartersville, GA
