Field Notes

Description:

Tiny male purple sunbird in its metallic blue, iridescent, breeding plumage. Wings dark...almost black. Beak thin and slightly curved. Nectar feeder.

Habitat:

On a Delonix regia tree, singing its heart out.

Notes:

We were in the middle of a heat-wave and temperatures were around 40-42 degrees Celsius when there was a shower. The birds came out. Insects too and in the failing light this male sunbird sand such a lovely song...it was impossible not to think that like us, it was thankful for the rains.
