Field Notes
Description:
The Common Bush Brown or Common Savanna Bush Brown (Bicyclus safitza) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is found in all of Africa, south of the Sahara.
The wingspan is 40–45 mm for males and 43-48 for females. Adults are on wing year round.
The larvae feed on various grasses, including Ehrharta erecta.
Notes:
An interesting find on a walk one Saturday morning. There was this eye-spotted Bush Brown looking tangled on the head of a tall elephant grass. The abnormal position it stayed suggested that I may have been caught by a predator- spider or mantis. But on closer look, it was an entirely different scene. It was draining a grain.
