Southern warthog
Phacochoerus africanus sundevallii
-27.6738, 31.6674
Field Notes
Description:
Pig-like with tusks. Occasionally feeds when resting on "wrists". On nearby roads, warthogs could be seen sticking their big heads through grassy roadsides as if they were not sure if they wanted to cross. Either that or they were interested in the sugar cane that spilled out of overloaded trucks onto the road.
Habitat:
Acacia scrub with grassy openings
Notes:
Primary predators in this area were probably lion and maybe leopard (if they still occur in this part of South Africa).
