Field Notes

Description:

Twigs short, sometimes ending in spines. Bark smooth, reddish brown, cracking on old trunks into gray-brown oblong scales. Leaves ovate-elliptical to obovate, teeth very fine or lacking. Flowers white, in showy clusters on short branches. Fruit a pear with gritty flesh. Often escapes from cultivation.
