Field Notes

Description:

Chlorophorus is a genus of round-necked longhorns belonging to the family Cerambycidae, subfamily Cerambycinae. Chlorophorus varius size varies between 8 - 14 mm. Body is elongated, cylinder-shaped, greenish-yellow colered with wasp-like yellow and black markings. The first (shoulder zone) black bands have C letter shape which is open towards the edge of the body. The pronotum and elytra are of equal width. The antennas and legs are black but covered with hair.

Habitat:

They are found in Eastern and Southern Europe, common in eastern Austria while already in southern Germany they are rare. Their habitats are meadows and forest edges in warm climate zones. I have found this one on my balcony, and I have no plants there, but just on the other side of the road there is a forest as well as a meadow, so I suppose it came from there.
