Jewel Scarab with a caterpillar
Chrysina quetzalcoatli
16.7354, -92.6387
Field Notes
Description:
This jewel scarab grabbed onto a green moth larva. I thought it would break the larva but after a few seconds it gently dropped it to the side, turned over and walked away. The larva also walked away without apparent damage.
It was kind of like an insect circus act.
Habitat:
Garden, semi-urban area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
