Field Notes

Description:

… a moth of the Noctuidae family. It is found in the Afrotropic ecozone. The wingspan is about 60 mm. The larvae feed on peach and Sapindus species.

Habitat:

Maputo, grassfields at the international airport. (meadowland)

Notes:

I had almost gave up on the Mozambican moths... I have tried to keep the balcony light on, but I think that the geckos out there are faster than me...
Today my luck changed and I found this day active, metallic blue beauty! It was hard to take a picture of it since it just sat down for a few seconds before it flew off again... But I finally got some OK shots. I am happy to be able to contribute to moth-week :)

Thank you for the information about FB, Agnes. I would never have noticed if it wasn't for you :) That is an honor for me :) Daniele, I wish I spotted it in Zanzibar instead of an shabby old military camp... But I agree to the text you wrote to your spotting, it must have been old! The ones I saw were frenetically flying around... And thank you for your words rajestmohit12 :)
Nice one Tina! I spotted one last year "not so far" from you: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/12779162
Congrats Tina! I just saw this featured in the PN fb: https://www.facebook.com/projectnoah?hc_location=stream
Thank you very much Debbie :) I wish you a great weekend!
Thank you Dotun! The flapping very fast so the first thing I noticed was a blue shimmer... I think it tock me 20 minutes to actually get two OK pictures. The guards at the place still thinks that I am a bit crazy! Hunting a "butterfly"... I am trying to get them to stop killing all the snakes they find there as well, easier said than done!
Gorgeous day-flying moth!
Thanks for your words Injica, they are inspiring! I will continue to look for blue items to our dear Jopy :)
Gorgeous, I have send to Jopy a link with this one few days ago, to show her another African blue beauty (she has this unnatural adoration for blue things ;) ) oh lucky you to have found it ;)
Thank you very much RiekoS :)
Excellent that you appreciate this fellow Adarsha. I have to say that I kind of love it to :)
Jakob, the moth is added to your mission, and thank you for your words. Sckel, thank you, and I will tell the moth to hide well if you are around :P
Beautiful moth, Tiz. I'm bad, I would try to capture it for me.
Spectacular, Tina! Happy National Moth Week! Could you add this moth to my mission, "Moths of the World?" This will contribute to data which will be processed and then analyzed at nationalmothweek.org. http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8841449
Ha! that was fast! A huge thanks to you Jakob :) (you had an ID before I had uploaded the two last photos)
