Description:
The flowers of this Saxifraga species are striking, with each petal showing small dots going from yellow to red starting from the center of the flower. The leaves are arranged in rosettes and are round and dented. Occurs in damp and shady places in or near the mountains of central and southern Europe.
Habitat:
Forest margin near river, alt. ~1300m.
Notes:
The word saxifrage originates from the Latin saxum, rock, and and frangere, to break. Some of these plants are known for their capacity to grow in rock crevices.
