Eastern Rosella
Platycercus eximius
-37.8938, 145.302
Field Notes
Description:
These medium sized colourful parrots often look like plastic toys strewn on grass. They have red head, neck and breast with white cheek patches. Yellowish-green backs with black specks, yellow green belly and tail base and bright blue wing and tail feathers.
Habitat:
Seen on open woodlands and grasslands through out South Eastern Australia.
These were spotted in a grassed football oval.
Notes:
It is interesting to note that they are seldom seen where there are tall trees, an area populated by the Crimson Rosella. In our local area, the two different Rosellas co-exist but one on grasslands and the other amongst tall trees.
