Eucalyptus Weevil Egg Pod
Gonipterus scutellatus
-37.9024, 145.308
Field Notes
Description:
These 4 mm long crusty cases were spotted on eucalyptus leaves. The upper surface was rounded and the part closest to the leaf was flat. There were many tracts, made possibly by a larval form of an insect, leading to these crusty structures.
Habitat:
Spotted on Manna Gum ( Eucalyptus viminalis) in a reserve.
Notes:
My thanks to martinl for providing an ID for this. It's amazingly small in relation to the weevil. Each pod is said to contain about 3 to 16 eggs arranged in vertical layers. <br>
