Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful caterpillar that has reddish orange coloring with tiny hairs the same color on the top part of the body. black spots along the side that I think are each divided by a line. In some pictures the spot just looks shiny, but in others it looks like a light colored line. Center white/light yellow stripe down the center back of the body. small white hairs along the bottom half of the body. solid black head.

Habitat:

found this caterpillar while we were setting up our new garden fencing he was climbing along the new cedar poles.

I agree! thank you! Now we know what all those tents were in all the Yaupon Trees at the back of the property earlier in the year!
