Black bee Fly

Very large bee-fly. It has a black body approximately 0.6 inch long. The wings have the characteristic swept back look like may members of the bombylinde family. The wings are about 1-1.25 inches across. they are multitoned. The rear portions of the wing being transparent; the front being black. The wings The head is quite round and has dominant large compound.The body apppears to have at least 5 segments with dot patterns. Body hair is apparent. The bee-fly was feeding on both wildflowers and inspecting the ground. The behavior and flying habits are similar to that of the skipper butterflies.
