Field Notes

Description:

Large, about 8 cm in wingspan, and attractive, mainly yellow butterfly from the family Papilionidae. Black markings on forewings, black and blue ones on hindwings. There are also protruding tails and red spots on hindwings.

Habitat:

Found on tops of Jura mountain, above the treeline, on montane pastures and rocky terrains.

Thank you Brian; and I confirm their fast and nervous flight... But I must admit that this fella looked more than happy to "pose"; flying away and then landing again and again on the same heap of stones.
