Field Cricket
Gryllus sp.
22.5417, 88.3164
Field Notes
Description:
Jumping, black insect with long thin antennae.
Habitat:
This one was all over the house following a sharp spell of rain that ended heat-wave conditions.
Notes:
There were house geckos nearby. I did not see the fella the next day so either it left or served as dinner to the geckoes. In Bengal these insects are called Jhi Jhi poka: an onomatopoeic term referring to the sound they make (Poka is generic Bangla term for insect)
